The crash happened in Putnam County on Thursday, Jan. 25 around 6 p.m., when two vehicles collided in the town of Southeast in the area of 477 Tonetta Lake Rd.

An arriving deputy found that one of the drivers was in immediate need of medical attention and began performing CPR and using an automated external defibrillator on her until she was taken to Putnam Hospital Center by Brewster EMS.

After arriving at the hospital, the driver, identified as 64-year-old Marie Desimone of Southeast, was pronounced dead, according to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.

The occupants of the second vehicle involved in the crash, a 36-year-old Southeast woman and two children aged 5 and 1, were also taken to Putnam Hospital Center with minor injuries.

An investigation into the crash conducted with the help of the New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit later determined that Desimone's vehicle had been driving westbound before crossing into the eastbound lane for unknown reasons, hitting the other car head-on, the Sheriff's Office said.

Tonetta Lake Road remained closed until around 9 p.m. as the investigation was conducted. No charges related to the crash have been announced.
